Nursing Students Administering COVID-Testing on Campus

Practical Nursing students at Tooele Technical College have been able to get hands-on experience by administering COVID-19 test to faculty, staff and students. Because of COVID, it has been difficult for our nursing students to get the number of clinical hours required for the program. We have had to be very innovative in making sure the program requirements are met. Of course, we could give our students virtual simulation online but this takes away from the human contact we strive for in our program. Our students have really enjoyed their time helping out with COVID testing and quickly came to realize they are now a part of the solution instead of the problem. The PN department is having students rotate shifts at the testing station. These types of opportunities give students real world experience to help them become more confident and experienced as they enter into the healthcare industry.
