IT and Security Technician

Are you a technology guru who loves to solve complex problems?  Do you want to learn how to secure networks and out-smart hackers?

The IT and Security Technician program at Tooele Technical College gives students the opportunity to learn the basics of how to repair, maintain, operate and provide basic security for computers and networks. After completing the program students will understand networking and the equipment needed for general use such as routers and switches. They will receive security training and learn about different viruses and the variances among viruses. Student  learn about malware, and ransomware as well as  how to set up a small home or office, medium sized business, and how to become an integral part of a larger enterprise system. They will also get a chance to learn how the hackers try to attack networks so that they may defend them better. Some of the certifications students may earn are TestOut IT Fundamentals Pro, CompTIA’s IT Fundamentals, TestOut PC Pro, CompTIA’s A+, TestOut Network Pro, CompTIA’s Net+, TestOut Security Pro, and CompTIA’s Security +.

    (archived) IT and Security Technician

    Admission Requirements:

    Adult students must provide their High School Transcripts, showing, at least, 8th grade math and 11th grade reading with a C grade or better or take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) scoring at a 8th grade level for math and an 11th grade level for reading.

    Students are encouraged to meet with a IT and Security Technician faculty member prior to enrolling into this program.

    **Of Special Note: A felony conviction in past will make it extremely difficult for the student to get a job in this industry.
