I credit my Business Technology training for being selected as Sailor of the Quarter in my Navy Reserve unit and it also helped with my recent promotion to team lead at Purple. I enjoyed learning to use the Microsoft Office programs and the Google versions of these products. Using Excel spreadsheets has become a part of my daily work life. By applying this training I recently created two online programs to help with end of day reports.

    The Business program provides students the opportunity to learn skills in leadership, presentations, marketing, social marketing, basic records management, accounting practices, QuickBooks, and business software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite. Upon completion of the program, student will have gained the technical and soft skills to be employed in a wide variety of areas including large and small businesses, educational institutions, corporations, and self/‐employment.

    Program Objectives:
    Competencies include a broad range of technical skills using hardware and software, soft skills in customer service, presentations, marketing, leadership, and workplace skills. Gainful employment in industry is enhanced through completion of your business certificate. Students will learn to perform skills required for the occupation including but not limited to:

    Admission Requirements:
    • Students must be at least in the 9th grade.
    • Adult students must provide their high school transcripts, showing, at least, 9th grade math and reading with a C grade or better or take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) scoring at a 9th grade level for both math and reading.
    Math & English Levels: 9th grade in math and reading comprehension.

  • What are some examples of skills I will learn?

    Manage your life educationally, personally, and professionally using MS Office Suite.

    Learn to use MS Office Suite to calendar, create business documents, and communicate with colleagues and clients.

    With a heavy emphasis in Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access students gain skills and knowledge needed in any business environment.

    Gain interpersonal communication skills

    Study the importance of interpersonal skills (soft skills) and how to apply them to strengthen all relationships.

    Learn professionalism in the workplace such as working ethically, improving communication (including written, verbal and electronic), leadership styles, problem solving, accountability and attitude.

    Courses emphasize steps in preparing for employment such as, job search techniques, resume writing and interviewing skills.

    Professionalism in the workplace, and the power of communication to achieve understanding.

    Students will learn both hard and soft skills to maintain professionalism and direct internal and external customer services in an office administration setting by acquiring skills in organizing office operations and procedures, basic records management, accounting practices including QuickBooks, basic mathematical applications for business functions such as invoice processing, payroll and calculation of interest, consumer credit and mortgages.
