Students learn how to formulate teaching plans, manage the classroom, teach materials utilizing different learning styles, as well as learning administrative responsibilities and effective communication skills.

While I was enrolled in the Nail Tech program at Tooele Tech, I realized that it’s the perfect time for me to bring my love for doing nails and my desire for business ownership together to make my dreams a reality. The program taught me all aspects of the industry and I was able to start my home business confidently. I enjoyed the classroom salon environment and found that I love teaching and sharing my artistic talents with others.

I enjoyed attending the Nail Technician program and found it to be a great experience. All staff members are friendly and willing to help! After my program completion and some client experience, I enrolled in the Nail Instructor program. This training enabled me to pursue my dream and open my own business, Supreme Beauty Lounge. I am now able to support other technicians to grow their clientele while we serve the local community. I’ve built a team of great Cosmetologists and Nail Technicians composed of Tooele Tech alumni.

    Nail Technician Instructor

    Admission Requirements:
    • Students must present a high school transcript, GED test scores, or be complete a TABE exam.
    • Students must have received their State of Utah Division of Professional Licensing Nail Technician license.
    Math & English Levels: Adult students will be assessed using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Survey or through high school or college transcripts. A TABE score of 8th grade in math and reading comprehension is recommended.
    Occupation & Licensure Requirements:

    Nail Technicians must be certified to work in this field in the state of Utah. In order to become certified students must:

    •     Complete 150 documented hours
    •     Graduate from a Utah licensed school
    •     Submit a “Verification of Graduation” form to DOPL with processing fee
    •     Pass both written and practical testing portions of the Utah/NIC Nail Technician Instructor Exam
  • What are some examples of skills I will learn?

    Manicures, pedicures, sculpted and gel nails

    Students will learn and become proficient in pushing back and cutting cuticles, buffing and shining nails, and applying wraps, artificial nails, polishes, and nail art.

    They will demonstrate how to apply acrylic to a nail with both a tip and a form using reverse and regular application. Students will also know how to apply both soft and hard gel to a nail using both tips and forms.

    Identify basic diseases and disorders of the nail and what action to take

    Learn business math that is used by commercial enterprises to record and manage operations.

    Students will identify what disorders are appropriate to service and will learn to adhere to the highest standards of sanitation, which includes cleaning and sanitizing tools and equipment.

    Client Relations

    Students will demonstrate how to answer the phone, take messages, schedule appts, and check clients in and out.

    They will learn to record and update client records, and market and work to build their own future business.
