- Safety and Shop Skills

Course Description:
This course will provide students with hands-on training in basic skills and safety. Students will receive detailed training on shop safety, fire safety, proper attire, basic welding, use of electric machinery, and the use of basic tools. Students will be required to pass a safety exam before they are allowed to work in the shop.
Certificate:Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding and mastery of safety and shop skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs: Competencies (skills you will learn):- Identify safety procedures common to a shop environment
- Describe proper attire and personal safety equipment, lifting technique, and shop materials safety

Course Description:
This course provides theory and hands-on experience for students on heavy duty brake systems. The course will cover maintenance and repair of wheel bearing systems, and wheels. Students will learn each component of the brake system, brake function, and component recognition for service needs. Students will perform the necessary repairs or replacement needed to ensure safe operation.
Competencies (skills you will learn):- Students will be able to repair and diagnosis heavy duty brake systems, grease style wheel bearings, oil bath wheel bearings, air brake operation, tire rotation and use of tire machines.

The course will cover maintenance and repair of air brakes, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). Students will learn industry standards for repairing and/or replacing brakes/hardware and brake chambers.

Course Description:
This course provides theory and hands-on experience for students on the maintenance and repair of heavy duty steering and suspension. Instruction covers frame removal, service, and repair; kingpins, tie rods, steering gearbox, and hydraulic brake systems, as well as alignment for both light and heavy duty trucks.
Certificate:Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding and mastery of suspension and steering based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skills Competence is available upon request.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs: Competencies (skills you will learn):- Given a hydraulic brake system, demonstrate how to properly remove, service, and replace the following components: Brake drums, Brake rotor, Brake shoes, and Disc brakes
- Identify the components of the steering and suspension system
- Given a vehicle, demonstrate how to remove and replace the following components according to industry standards: Kingpins, Tie rods, Front leaf springs, Steering gear box, and Wheel Alignment
- Given a vehicle, demonstrate how to perform a steering gear overhaul for both a manual and power steering gear
- Identify the reasons for wheel alignment and describe the four wheel alignment factors
- Given a vehicle, demonstrate how to correct front wheel alignment to factory specification

Course Description:
This course will provide theory and hands-on training on basic electrical components and systems, vehicle charging and starting systems, and electrical engine component tune-up and diagnosis. Students will receive detailed training on alternators, starter motors, and how to time and adjust the electrical components of engines. Students are required to wire various circuits and use electrical test equipment to troubleshoot alternator, starter motor, and engine electronic components and systems.

Course Description:
This course provides the student with theory and hands-on experience on maintenance and repair of the heavy duty drive train systems. Instruction and repair will cover clutches, transmissions and drive lines. The student will be required to perform clutch adjustments and replacement, pull transmissions, pull and repair drive lines and u-joints, and small transmission rebuilds.
