- 1B - Introduction to Electrical Practices

Course Description:
This course helps students gain a broader understanding of Electrical Theory along with code requirements for residential wiring, including heating systems, fire alarm and security systems. Pipe bending instruction is also included in this semester.
Competencies (skills you will learn):- Students will be sufficiently safe to perform second semester level skills and procedures on a job site.
- Students will understand and apply concepts consistent with the national electric code.

Course Description:
Students will learn concepts including Electrical Theory as it applies to motors, transformers, and generators. This course reiterates important safety training and students learn about inductance theory, series AC circuits and Three-Phase AC.

This course prepares students for further understanding of industrial and commercial wiring, and overcurrent protection. Students will learn appropriate transformer sizing, and motor control circuits and hookups.

Course Description:
This course helps students gain foundational knowledge and skills relating to motor controls, including the application and installation of these devices. Students will learn time delay and complex line diagrams. Instruction will also include the basics of working with fiber optics.

Course Description:
Students gain understanding of solid state electronic, photoelectric and proximity controls. Students will learn the basics of programmable controls. Preventative maintenance and troubleshooting is included, along with triacs, diacs, and transistor amplifiers.

Course Description:
Students develop the skills to install, maintain and troubleshoot Fire Alarm Systems. Further understanding of motors, controls, air conditioning and refrigeration is included this semester. Students will also finalize coursework needed in preparation for the journeyman test.
