In this course, students will learn electrode selection and Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) applications.
Certificate:Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding of SMAW for maintenance based on a score of 80% or higher on text and competency exams. A Certificate of Skills Competence is available upon request.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs: Competencies (skills you will learn):- Understanding of proper electrode selections
- Understanding welding using the SMAW process
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length:The estimated length of this course is 45 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday
8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Fridays
Students must be at least 16 years old to enroll in this course. There are no specific requirements to take this course. However courses in the Maintenance Technology Program are to be taken in order. If a student wants to take a single course it must be pre-approved by the instructor and there may be prerequisite courses.

Tuition & Fees:Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
