This course is designed to give the student experience in locating and documenting the patient diagnosis and assigning proper CPT codes for services rendered in a medical office. For a health care provider to be reimbursed for services provided a properly coded claim must be submitted that links the ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM codes with the CPT Codes. The student needs to know the procedure for appropriately assigning codes, the procedures for reporting codes and reimbursement policies.
Certificate:Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding of procedural and diagnostic coding based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.

- Code the diagnosis correctly and accurately
- Document and validate professional services
- Read the source document and code from the information listed
- Identify the main term, sub-terms and modifying terms for the procedure to be coded
- Verify that the code matches the procedure statement provided in the record
- Accurately assign the proper CPT code
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
