This course provides theory and hands-on experience for students on heavy duty brake systems. The course will cover maintenance and repair of air brakes, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), wheel bearing systems, and wheels. Students will learn each component of the brake system, brake function, and component recognition for service needs. Students will perform the necessary repairs or replacement needed to ensure safe operation.
Certificate:Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding and mastery of heavy duty brake and skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs: Competencies (skills you will learn):- Using the brake training board, examine how to move and manage the brake parts and explain how the parts work
- Given a vehicle, demonstrate removal, service, and replacement of the following truck components according to industry standards: Air compressor, Brakes, Chambers, Front and dual wheels, Pack and oil bath bearings
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length:The estimated length of this course is 75 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

Admission Requirements
Students must be at least 16 years old to enroll in this course. Also, the Heavy Duty Diesel Safety and Shop Skills Course must be completed prior to this course.
