This pre-requisite course provides an overview of a variety of topics that will be covered in the Software Development program. Students are required to pass this course before being accepted into the Software Development program.
Certificate:Completion of this course certifies proficient basic skills and understanding of software development principals and systems based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs: Competencies (skills you will learn):- Comprehend concepts, principles and skills taught
- Build and configure a Linux virtual machine as a server
- Leverage version control using "git"
- Build a self-hosted website with one or more simple web applications
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length:The estimated length of this course is 80 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Thursday
8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Fridays
- Students must be at least in the 11th grade and meet with an IT Faculty member prior to enrolling into this program
- Students will be assessed using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and test at the 11th grade level in math and reading, unless a transcript showing completion of an Associate’s degree or higher credential is provided
Students are encouraged to bring their own laptop.
Tuition & Fees:Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees.
