Prepare students for a rewarding career in the growing field of industrial automation! The focus of our Electrical Motor Controls Course is to provide a hands-on learning experience where students will build, troubleshoot and repair motor control circuits. Also, the flexibility in the schedule allows specialized training for maintenance personnel presently employed as well as those who have more time to dedicate. Skills learned apply to all fields of automation, including those needed for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and refrigeration technicians.
Competencies (skills you will learn):
- Students will be able to read and understand industrial motor controls schematics.
- Students will know the correct function all of the components used in motor control circuits.
- Students will be experienced in troubleshooting and and problem solving of motor control circuits.
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length:The estimated length of this course is 45 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

The following courses are required Safety & Shop Rules, Introduction to Electrical Systems and Power Sources & Electrical Instruments. Must be 16+ years old to enroll.
ALL STUDENTS (High school and Adult) must meet with an Industrial Maintenance Faculty member prior to enrolling into this course. Due to limited lab availability a students schedule will also be influenced by the results of this conversation.
Pre-requisites can be waived when employer, student and instructor agree skills and experience are adequate. (such as Custom Fit students)
Textbooks & Materials:Required Supplies: Safety Glasses and digital camera or smartphone for submission of assignments.
Tuition & Fees:Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
