This course provides the student with theory and hands-on experience on maintenance and repair of the heavy duty drive train systems. Instruction and repair will cover clutches, transmissions, drive lines, and differentials. The student will be required to perform clutch adjustments and replacement, pull transmissions, pull and repair drive lines and u-joints, and differentials.
Certificate:Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding and mastery of drive train based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs:
Competencies (skills you will learn):- Identify the components of the drive train and explain their function
- Demonstrate how to remove and replace a transmission and clutch
- Using the appropriate service manual, demonstrate how to overhaul the following systems: Small transmissions, Large transmissions, including a Mack transmission, A variety of sizes of differentials, and U-joints
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length:The estimated length of this course is 90 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

Student must be at least 16 years old to enroll in this course. Also, the Heavy Duty Diesel Safety and Shop Skills course must be completed prior to this course.
