In this Cosmetology/Barbering program foundation course, students will learn basic principles of the industry including salon ecology, microbiology and infection control, continuing on into tricology or hair theory, draping and shampooing, chemical treatments, hairstyling theory and fundamentals and design decisions.
Certificate:Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams and 100% on skill demonstration. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.
This course, in conjunction with the remaining Cosmetology/Barbering courses, fulfills requirements for the TATC Certificate of Proficiency for the Cosmetology/Barbering program. Completion of the program will also prepare you to sit for the Utah Division of Professional Licensing PSI Cosmetologist/Barber exam.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs: Competencies (skills you will learn):- Understanding of salon ecology, microbiology and infection control
- Understanding of tricology-hair theory, draping and shampooing
- Understanding of chemical texturizing and perm theory and wrapping patterns
- Understanding of hair coloring - theory, chemistry and removal techniques
- Understanding of hairstyling theory and fundamentals
- Understanding of design decisions - considerations and composition
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length:The estimated length of this course is 74 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.
