This course provides Heavy Duty Diesel and Industrial Maintenance students with a fundamental understanding of computers and computing. Topics include computer hardware, operating systems, and introduction to Microsoft word 2003, Microsoft Excel 2003, Internet navigation, and e-mail applications.
Certificate:Completion of this course certifies proficient basic computer skill based on competency exams in a professional setting. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs: Competencies (skills you will learn):- Identify basic computer hardware, software applications, and operating systems
- Learn to navigate and manage files and folders in the Windows environment
- Gain basic knowledge of the two primary applications programs, Word and Excel
- Learn to use online computing including internet and electronic mail
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length:The estimated length of this course is 30 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

Students must be at least in the 9th grade.
Textbooks & Materials:Classroom sets are available for student use.
Tuition & Fees:Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
