This course focuses on understanding orthopedic medicine, and the musculoskeletal and dermatology systems, which includes all the bones, muscles, joints and supportive tissues and connective tissues. You will learn the anatomy and physiology of the cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. And gain an understanding of the integumentary system, including the skin and its accessory organs. Dermatology also deals with the hair, the nails, sweat glands and the subcutaneous tissue that lies beneath the skin.You will assist in diagnosis and treatment of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. You will learn the names of all the bones in the body and distinguish between different kinds of fractures.
Certificate:Completion of this course certifies proficient Medical Assisting skills in the orthopedic, musculoskeletal and dermatology examinations based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length:The estimated length of this course is 30 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

Students must be at least 16 years old and matriculated in the Clinical Medical Assisting program.
