Certifications and Licensures

Certificates and licenses are needed for careers and jobs that require proof of skill based on knowledge rather than a degree. Certifications and licensures show that an individual is up to date and competent both in current theory and skills necessary for employment in the specified career field and/ or job. This also shows they have met all industry, state, and/ or national requirements for employment.

Tooele Technical College (Tooele Tech) offers both COE accredited Program Certificates and Occupational Skills Certificates to students who successfully complete all the academic and skill based requirements for the specific program or course.

In order to receive an Tooele Tech certificate students must demonstrate all competencies. State/national licensure or industry certifications are required for employment in some occupations and it is the responsibility of the student to obtain them.

STATE LICENSURES / CERTIFICATIONS

State licensures and certifications give individuals permission to practice in specified careers. Such licenses or certifications are usually required in order to regulate types of careers or operations that are deemed to involve a high level of specialized skill that may directly or indirectly threaten or be dangerous to a person or the public. This often involves accredited training and examinations, at a state level, which varies greatly for different occupations.

INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS

Industry certifications are usually skill-specific for a type of process, product, or understanding of unique skills needed for employment or advancement in the workforce. This kind of certification is a classification earned by a person to assure qualification in performing a job or task. Most industry certifications are affiliated with professional associations interested in raising the standards in the workforce and are therefore considered a particularly unbiased barometer of your skills.
